What is Steam Trains and Ghosts?
Hello. My name is Margaret Taylor and Steam Trains and Ghosts is my personal blog. I’m currently a graduate student at the University of Minnesota. I’m also an avid writer of science fiction and fantasy stories, which I publish as Smashwords books online.
This blog grew out of an effort in the spring of 2008 to publicize my first novel, Grizelda. It went well, and now I’ve caught the blogging bug. Here you can find news and information about my creative efforts, including Grizelda, The Confederacy of Heaven (2010), and my work in progress, Cannon Fodder. I hope to do something big with Cannon Fodder – more news to come later.
Besides writing, this blog contains a fair bit about my other obsessions, like cooking, plants, and generalized nerdiness. Expect me to rant about slime molds, cats, the incompleteness paradox, and Alan Rickman piloting a dirigible.
The lovely logo in the background was crafted by MN-based art student Mark Reif. You can find his website here at The Whole 9. If you’ve got something to say about Steam Trains and Ghosts, I’d love you to drop me a line!
I am a huge fan of “The arrival” and steampunkery in general. Keep up the good work!

Thanks!
Hi! I just read “The Confederacy of Heaven”, and enjoyed it greatly. (Review at bard_bloom.livejournal.com, if you like). I liked it enough so that I just acquired Griselda by largely-honest means.
(I write fantasy too: my free web-serial is at sythyry.com).
Thanks very much!
– Bard
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the link – I just checked out your site!
Just finished reading The Confederacy of Heaven a great read enjoyed it very much and think it could use a follow up as in what becomes of Nasan, Capt. Lunde. Do they get Systems Integrated working, what becomes og the 12 clans. So much more could be a couple more books in this theme after all there are still exiled Stars arouind
Thanks a lot, Al. I’m not sure about a sequel yet, there could be one.
Hello! Grizelda and the confed of heaven were wonderful! Unlike anything i have read before but they both left with such terrible cliffhangers… i hope to see much more from you in the future and really appreciate your work!
Just wanted to say I love the name of your blog!
Your description of your blog is so comforting. I’m interested in so many things but always thought my blog should be restricted to just one thing. Now I see I can explore other things and be successful!
